I (Marty Grant) am not related to Eliza F. Grant as far as I can determine, though she did live in the same county as my own Grant ancestors (Thomas B. Grant, etc.).

Eliza F. Grant was born ca 1825/26 (per 1850 census) in Kentucky (per 1850 census). I don't know what county. I don't know what her "F" middle initial stood for.

I don't know who Eliza's parents might have been. The fact that she was born in Kentucky, but lived in Macon Co, NC in 1850 may provide clues for finding out her origin, but it hasn't helped me at all (so far). She married in Macon in early 1850 and was still there for the 1850 census. There were two distinct Grant families in Macon County at the time, one of which she may be connected to. First was my family, the descendants of Andrew Grant (1755/65) and Martha Mackey.  I have not found any connection between Eliza and that family. The other family was the descendants of James Grant (1755/65) and Elizabeth Powell (not related to Andrew Grant's family). Since James' family did have some Kentucky connections, it seems more likely that Eliza was related to him. It is also possible she was not connected to either of these families, but to some other unknown Grant family who passed through the area.

I don't know when Eliza moved to Macon Co, NC (excepting that it was before February 1850), so she may have still been in Kentucky or elsewhere for the 1830 and 1840 census, or possibly in Macon already by that time.

Eliza would have been about 4 years old by the 1830 census. There were no Grants in Macon County that year, and there were quite a few in Kentucky.

In 1840, Eliza would have been about 14 years old, so should be enumerated in the 10-14 age group (born ca 1825/30). Charles B. Grant (c1795) was in Macon that year, and had two apparent daughters that age, though they are both identified already. He also had two girls 15-19 (born ca 1820/25), who are not identified, so if Eliza's age is off slightly, that could be her. None of the other Grants in Macon County in 1840 had a daughter Eliza's age.

On 2 May 1850, Theodore Hicks obtained a marriage bond in Macon County to marry Eliza F. Grant. J. K. Bell, Deputy Clerk of Court signed the bond in an official capacity, not as bondsman, I don't think there was a bondsman. I've looked at this original bond before, but I didn't write down a bondsman, so there must not have been one, or else I messed up. Theodore Hicks was born ca 1814/15 (per 1850 census) in Granville County, NC (per 1850 census). I don't know who his parents were. There was only one other Hicks family in Macon County in 1850, and they were not from Granville County, so probably not connected.

On the 1850 census, Theodore and Eliza were listed in Macon County still. They were just a couple of households from William Roan who is (I think) a grandson of James Grant (1755/65) and Elizabeth Powell. Them being near each other makes it seem more likely that Eliza is part of that same Grant family.

I was unable to find them on the 1860 census. They either both died, or removed somewhere west. I checked the 1860 census index and found a couple of listings for "Theodore Hicks", but when I checked them, none seemed to be this same one. There was a close match in Christian County, Kentucky in 1860, but I'm not sure if it is them. His age was 40, his wife "A. E." was 30, and their oldest child was born ca 1851.  Those ages for Mr. and Mrs. don't match, but are close enough to consider. The children's ages are consistent with a couple married in early 1850.

Children

If Theodore and Eliza had children, they were born after 1850, and I have no knowledge of them.
