I (Marty Grant) am a 1st cousin 5 times removed of George C. Grant.

Special thanks to Valerie Duvefelt for data shared on this family.

George Carson Grant was born 14 Dec 1838 (per Valerie Duvefelt) in Macon Co, NC (per 1850 and 1860 census), presumably on or near Mill Creek (or "Millers Creek").  George's middle name of "Carson" is per Valerie Duvefelt.

He is a son of Charles B. Grant and Mary Morris, and was with them on the 1850 and 1860 census.

I don't know who George may have been named for, as there were no other Georges in the family prior to him, as far as I know, nor anyone named "Carson".

George was probably home with his parents for the 1840 census, probably the male child age "under 5" (born ca 1835/40).

George was home with his parents in 1850 ("George" age 12, born Macon).

George was still with his parents for the 1860 census ("George C." age 21, born Macon).

On 11 Aug 1861, G. C. Grant obtained a marriage bond in Macon County to marry M. M. Queen (Myra Elvira Queen). William Bracket was bondsman. They were married a week later on 18 Aug 1861 by William B. Dean, Justice of the Peace. Myra Elvira Queen was born 18 Jul 1845 (per Valerie Duvefelt) in Macon County, a child of John William Queen and Martha Hickey. (These are part of my Bryson family). Myra was a sister to Sarah E. Queen who married George's cousin Jesse C. Grant (1850) in 1870.

For the Civil War, on 7 Jul 1862, George C. Grant enlisted as a Private in Company A, 7th Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry (Confederate). He enlisted in Macon County, and was reported as age 22. On 3 Aug 1863 he was transferred to Company E, 65th North Carolina Troops. He was reported absent without leave in September and December 1863. He took the oath of allegiance as a Rebel Deserter at the office of Provost Marshall of East Tennessee on 6 Feb 1864.

In this timeframe, George and family moved to Tennessee, perhaps Monroe County where several siblings were living.

On 8 Feb 1869 G. C. Grant witnessed a deed of his brother James M. Grant to Humphrey Caler for land in Macon County. (Macon Co, NC Deed Book L page 556).

They were not listed on the 1870 census in Macon County, nor Monroe County, Tennessee (where several of his siblings were). I didn't find them in Missouri either. They were somewhere in Tennessee, but I have no census index for that state in 1870 to locate them with.

By circa 1871, they had moved to Greene County, Missouri. Several of George's second cousins (children of John Grant) had moved there a few years before this, and perhaps they had sent back word that attracted George to move there, or perhaps there was another reason.

George and family were listed in Center Township of Greene County, Missouri for the 1870 census. (Most of his cousins were in Cass Township). ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

I don't have the 1900 census listings yet, nor do I know where they were that year.

At some point, they moved to Garfield, Whitman County, Washington.

Myra Elvira Queen Grant died on 25 Jan 1908 in Whitman Co, WA.

I don't have the 1910 or 1920 census listings yet, though I suppose George was still in Garfield those years.

George Carson Grant died on 14 Jan 1927 in Garfield, Whitman Co, WA.

Children

George C. Grant and Myra Elvira Queen had 10 children, 7 of whom are proven by the 1880 census. Thanks to Valerie Duvefelt and Cindy Jenkins for details provided about these children. I have very little additional data on these children, so they will not get their own sections here.
