I (Marty Grant) am not related to Andrew Jackson Hensley as far as I know.

Andrew Jackson Hensley was born ca 1817/18 in Buncombe Co, NC (now Yancey Co, NC).

I don't know who Andrew's parents were for sure, but somewhere along the way, I have attached him as a child of Henry Hensley and Mary W. Howard. I don't know what proof there is of this. He does fit in Henry's family, but I've seen no direct proof (or strong circumstantial evidence) that he belongs there.

One big clue is that one of Andrew's children was named "Wallace", and another "Enos". These are possibly named after Wallace Hensley (c1818) and Enos Hensley (c1816), both of whom are also suspected sons of Henry and Mary. It would make sense for them all to be siblings. But then again, this isn't proof, just circumstantial evidence. There may be stronger evidence available somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. If Wallace and Andrew are siblings, they might be twins, as they are the exact same age in the 1850 and 1860 census records.

Henry Hensley (and Mary Howard) did have an apparent son this same age, per the 1830 and 1840 census records. This could easily be Andrew, but I can't say for sure if it was.

Assuming Henry is Andrew's father, then Andrew seems to be with Henry in 1830 (Henry was not found on the 1820 census, and may have been missed that year), age 10-14 (born ca 1815/20), and with him in 1840, age 20-29 (born ca 1810/20).

Andrew Jackson Hensley married Nancy --- ca 1840/42 in Yancey Co, NC. Somewhere along the way, her maiden name has been listed as "Whitson", but I have no idea what the evidence for that is, so I'm not using it, except to mention the possibility. Andrew's possible brother Wallace, was also married (supposedly) to a Whitson. Perhaps their wives were sisters.

Andrew and family were listed on the 1850 census in Yancey County, NC. They were next door to Wallace Hensley, who I suspect is Andrew's brother (mainly due to them living "side by side", and Andrew named one of his sons "Wallace"). Andrew's neighbor on the other side was John Proffitt.

Andrew and Nancy were still in Yancey Co, NC for the 1860 census. His probable brother,  Henry Hensley (Jr), was next door on one side (with their widowed mother Mary living with him), and probable brother Wallace Hensley was next door on the other side.

I have not traced Andrew and Nancy beyond this point. Yancey County records may hold additional information on them, just waiting to be found. He had real property ($400 worth in 1850), so there must be deed records for him.

Children

Andrew and Nancy had at least eight children per the various census records. Since I have not done too much research on them, I'll not discuss them individually until more data is found.
