I (Marty Grant) am not related to Wallace Hensley as far as I know.

Wallace Hensley was born ca 1817/18 in Buncombe Co, NC (now Yancey Co, NC).

I don't know who Wallace's parents were for sure, but somewhere along the way, I have attached him as a child of Henry Hensley and Mary W. Howard. I don't know what proof there is of this. He does fit in Henry's family, but I've seen no direct proof (or strong circumstantial evidence) that he belongs there.

One big clue is that he may be a brother to Andrew Jackson Hensley (lived next door in 1850) who named one of his children "Wallace", and another "Enos". These are possibly named after Wallace and Enos Hensley (c1816), both of whom (Andrew and Enos) are also suspected sons of Henry and Mary. It would make sense for them all to be siblings. But then again, this isn't proof, just circumstantial evidence. There may be stronger evidence available somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. If Wallace and Andrew are siblings, they might be twins, as they are the exact same age in the 1850 and 1860 census records.

Henry Hensley (and Mary Howard) did have an apparent son this same age, per the 1830 and 1840 census records. This could easily be Wallace, but I can't say for sure if it was.

Assuming Henry is Wallace's father, then Wallace seems to be with Henry in 1830 (Henry was not found on the 1820 census, and may have been missed that year), age 10-14 (born ca 1815/20), and with him in 1840, age 20-29 (born ca 1810/20).

Wallace Hensley married Mariah --- ca 1840/43 in Yancey Co, NC. Somewhere along the way, her maiden name has been listed as "Whitson", but I have no idea what the evidence for that is, so I'm not using it, except to mention the possibility. Wallace's possible brother Andrew was also supposedly married to a Whitson. Perhaps their wives were sisters.

Wallace and family were listed on the 1850 census in Yancey County, NC. They were next door to Andrew Jackson Hensley, who I suspect is Wallace's brother (mainly due to them living "side by side", and Andrew named one of his sons "Wallace"). Wallace's neighbor on the other side was James Higgins.

Apparently, Mariah (Whitson) Hensley died between 1850 and 1854 in Yancey Co, NC.

Wallace Hensley married Emaline Hughes on 28 Aug 1854 in Yancey Co, NC. Emaline was a widow, having married Joseph Hughes sometime before ca 1846. They were listed on the 1850 census in Yancey Co, NC just a few houses from Wallace Hensley and family. Therefore, "Hughes" is not Emaline's maiden name, but her first husbands name. I don't know what her maiden name might have been. In 1880, Emaline had a Rachel Hensley age 78 (born ca 1801/02) residing with her, listed as her mother. This is probably a mistake, and Rachel should not be listed as "Hensley".

Wallace and Emaline were in Yancey Co, NC for the 1860 census. they were together with several children, including some of Emaline's Hughes children "Samuel" age 4 must be a Hensley, since Wallace and Emaline married in 1854, though the above makes it appear he was a Hughes (unless his age is wrong). Wallace's probable brothers Andrew Jackson Hensley and Henry Hensley (Jr), were very near by.

Wallace and Emaline were still in Yancey for the 1870 census. Several of Emaline's Hughes children were still home. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

Wallace Hensley apparently died between 1870 and 1880 in Yancey Co, NC.

Emaline was listed on the 1880 census in Yancey County, in District 233. A "Rachel Hensley" age 78, widow, was listed with her and listed as her mother.  I don't know who this is. She might be listed as a "Hensley" by mistake. If this is Emaline's mother, then that would prove her maiden name was also "Hensley". ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

I have not traced Wallace and family beyond this point. Yancey County records may hold additional information on them, just waiting to be found. He had real property ($200 worth in 1850), so there must be deed records for him.

Children

Wallace and Mariah and Wallace and Emaline had several children together, and Emaline had several from her first marriage. Since I have not done much research on this family I'll not discuss them individually until more data is found.
