I (Marty Grant) am not related to Charles Hensley as far as I know.
Charles Hensley was born ca 1792/93 (per 1850 census) in North Carolina (possibly Buncombe, now Yancey Co, NC).
Charles Hensley's parents are unknown. There are a few suspects, but nothing concrete. Charles may be a brother to Mary Hensley (ca 1796/97 NC) who married Nathaniel Markham in 1811 in White Co, TN. Their similar age and birth place, and both being in White County would suggest they were related. (Thanks to Kat Davis for information on Mary's family).
Charles would have presumably been at home with his parents for the 1800 census. He would have been about 7 years old, so should have been enumerated in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1790/1800). Unfortunately, I don't know if Charles' family would still be in NC then, or already to Tennessee.
Charles would have been about 17 years old for the 1810 census, so should be enumerated with parents in the age 16-25 category (born ca 1784/94). Once again, I don't know where to look.
Charles Hensley was already in White County, Tennessee by 1820, so he could have already been there a number of years prior to that.
Charles Hensley married someone prior to 1820, but I have not found her name yet. Census records show her born ca 1790/94 (age 26-44 in 1820, (born ca 1775/94), and age 30-39 in 1830 (born ca 1790/1800), and age 40-49 in 1840 (born ca 1790/1800), thus giving her an approximate birth of ca 1790/94).
Charles Hensley was listed on the 1820 census in White County, Tennessee, in fact, the only Hensley there that year. He was listed between James Isham and William Smith.

Charles Hensley appeared on the 1825 White Co, TN Tax list.
Charles Hensley was listed on the 1830 census in White County, Tennessee. Jeremiah Hensley (c1793) was a few pages away, and could be a brother to Charles, but no proof of that. (Jeremiah did name one of his sons "Charles"). Charles was listed between Joel Bradshaw and Samuel Johnston.

Charles was listed on the 1840 census in White County. Other Hensleys in White County were many pages away: Obadiah Hensley (c1785) and Sarah Hensley (1790/1800).

In late 1840 Van Buren County was formed from part of White County, and the Charles Hensley family fell into the new county.
Mrs. Hensley died sometime between 1840 and 1850 in Van Buren County, Tennessee.
Charles was listed in Van Buren Co, TN in 1850, living with his son Winkfield Hensley.

In the late 1850's, Charles and his son Winkfield and family left Tennessee and moved to Hamilton County, Illinois.
At some point during the 1850's, either in Tennessee, or in Illinois, Charles Hensley married Axey ---. She was born ca 1786/87 in South Carolina. I don't know her maiden name.
Charles and Axey was living with his son Winkfield on the 1860 census in Hamilton County, Illinois.

I have no data on them after this point.
Charles and wife had several children per the various census records, most of them are still unidentified.
Unknown Son (1815/20). Charles Hensley had an apparent son this age. He was home in 1820 (age "under 10", born ca 1810/20), and still home in 1830 (age 10-14, born ca 1815/20), and apparently still home in 1840 (age 20-29, born ca 1810/20). He was not with Charles in 1850, so probably married, dead, or moved away by then.
This could be John A. Hensley (c1818) who lived in White Co, TN. He fits age-wise, and didn't marry until later in 1840 (after the 1840 census), so it could easily be him. I have no direct proof though.
Unknown Son (1820/25). Charles Hensley had an apparent son this age. He was home in 1830 (age 5-9, born ca 1820/25), but gone by 1840, so probably married, dead, or moved away by then.
I don't know who this might have been.
Unknown Daughter (1820/25). Charles Hensley had an apparent daughter this age. She was home in 1830 (age 5-9, born ca 1820/25), and still home in 1840 (age 15-19, born ca 1820/25), but gone by 1850, so probably married or dead by then.
Unknown Daughter (1820/25). Charles Hensley had an apparent daughter this age. She was home in 1830 (age 5-9, born ca 1820/25), and still home in 1840 (age 15-19, born ca 1820/25), but gone by 1850, so probably married or dead by then.
Winkfield Hensley was born ca 1827/28 in White Co, TN. He was apparently home with his parents for the 1830 census (age "under 5", born ca 1825/30), and still apparently home in 1840 (age 10-14, born ca 1825/30).
On 14 Dec 1847, Winkfield Hensley obtained a marriage bond in Van Buren Co, TN to marry Unicy Mooneyham. They married two days later on the 16th. Unicy (aka Eunicy) was born ca 1823/24 in Tennessee. I don't know who her parents were.
They were listed in Van Buren Co, TN for the 1850 census, with father Charles residing with them.

Unknown Son (1830/35). Charles Hensley had an apparent son this age. He was home in 1840 (age 5-9, born ca 1830/35), but gone by 1850, so probably married or dead by then.
Martha Jane Hensley was born ca 1834/35 in White Co, TN. She was apparently home with her parents for the 1840 census (age "under 5", born ca 1835/40). She was still home in 1850 ("Martha Jane", age 15).
She was not with her father in 1860, so she probably had married or died in the 1850-60 timeframe.
