I don't know if Mary was born a Hensley or she was married to a Mr. Hensley who died before 1850. At present I have no clue who Mary's husband may have been. The 1880 census entry for Mary's son Eli Hensley shows his father was born in Maryland. This doesn't seem right, but it could be.

Mary (or her husband) is probably related to Toliver Hensley (alias Taliaferro Hensley) since one of her own children (or grandchildren) bore that name also.

Mary's oldest apparent child was born ca 1818 in Virginia. There is a large gap before the next child born ca 1841. That one may be a grandchild instead of Mary's own.

Mary was not listed on the 1820 census as far as I could tell. Toliver Hensley (mentioned above) was listed on that census in Grayson, but was living alone. There were no other Hensleys in the county, at least none who were listed on the census.

Mary is not listed on the 1830 census either. There were no Hensleys listed in Grayson that year. Toliver was over in neighboring Ashe Co., NC, though he was still living alone.

I wasn't able to find Mary on the 1840 census either. There were no Hensleys in Grayson or in Ashe that year.

They are on the 1850 census in Grayson Co., VA. There are other Hensleys in the county then too, but not listed nearby.  This census shows that she had a child (or grandchild) named Martin Hensley. There was an older Martin Hensley (c1820) in Grayson at this time too, but not listed nearby. She also had a son (or grandson) Eli Hensley. There was another Eli Hensley, about 10 years older listed with another family in Grayson. It seems likely these Hensleys are all related somehow.

I wasn't able to find Mary on the 1860 census or in 1870 either. She either died, remarried or moved away.

I wasn't able to find Milly on the 1860 census unless she is the same person listed as "Malinda" Hensley. I kind of think they are one and the same, but I'm not 100% certain. She had several children, apparently out of wedlock.

She is listed on the 1870 census in Grayson with the same children plus one more. However this time she is listed as "Lydia" Hensley. There is another Malinda Hensley listed on the census too, but not nearby. The other one is younger than this one by about 20 years.

I wasn't able to find Malinda Hensley on the 1880 census. Her son Heath was still in Grayson, but I didn't find her nor the other children on that census in Virginia or elsewhere.

In 1860 he was living with Robert and Mary Halsey who had been their neighbors back in 1850. I don't know if they are related or not.

I didn't find Martin on the 1870 or 1880 census.
