I (Marty Grant) am not related to Washington Hensley as far as I know.
Washington Hensley was born ca 1774/84, probably in Henry County, Virginia.
Washington Hensley is a child of Henry Hensley and Barbara Angel. His connection to Henry and Barbara is based on secondary evidence and also on circumstantial evidence. John S. Higgins (born 1835) wrote a letter to his cousin William H. Higgins in 1892 talking about the Higgins family. In it, he stated that their grandmother (Barbara Hensley Higgins) was a child of Henry and Barbara Angel Hensley, and that Barbara Hensley Higgins had a brother named "Washington", named after the Washington family as Barbara Angel Hensley's mother was a Washington. This letter can not be considered primary evidence proving Washington was a son of Henry and Barbara, but it is very compelling secondary evidence, and it also supports circumstantial evidence linking Washington to Henry.
Some researchers list Washington Hensley's name as being "George Washington Hensley", but it was only "Washington Hensley" as far as I've found.
Washington Hensley moved with his parents from Henry Co, VA to what is now the Yancey and Madison County area of western North Carolina, but was then part of Burke County. This was in the mid 1780's.
Washington Hensley was presumably still at home with his parents for the 1790 census. His father Henry Hensley had 5 males "under 16" (born ca 1774/1790) with him in 1790. One of these was probably Washington Hensley.
In 1791, Buncombe County was created from the section of Burke County where the Hensley family resided.
Washington Hensley married someone in the 1790-1800 timeframe in Buncombe (now Yancey) Co, NC. I have not been able to find the name of his wife.
Washington Hensley was listed on the 1800 census in Buncombe Co, NC. Unfortunately this census was alphabetical, so I can't tell who his neighbors were.

Washington Hensley was listed on the 1810 census in Buncombe Co, NC. He was listed between Enos Shields and Josiah Anderson. Washington's father Henry was just 4 houses away. Also nearby were James Hensley (c1780) and John Hensley (1765/72).

Washington Hensley and family disappeared from Buncombe County after 1810. I found a Washington Hensley in 1820 Wayne Co, TN who might to be the same person. His age, and several of his children's ages are a perfect match to be this same person. Wayne Co, TN was crawling with Hensleys in 1820, mostly children of Hickman Hensley (1759), an Uncle of Washington's. None of them were on the same page with Washington though, however, Larkin Hensley (1779) (Wash's 1st cousin) was on the next page number (but actually three pages) from him. Washington's next door neighbors in 1820 were James Kile and Thomas Gore. This census record shows Washington Hensley with 1 slave. He had none back in NC in 1810 or 1800.

I did not find Washington Hensley after 1820. He was not still in Wayne County for the 1830 census. Perhaps not coincidentally, neither were any of his Uncle Hickman's children. They had all moved into neighboring counties by 1830, some of them were in Hickman County, and some in Maury County. However, I didn't find Washington Hensley in any of those counties in 1830, or elsewhere in Tennessee. He may have died in the 1820-1830 timeframe, or moved out of state. There was a "Wier Hensly" in nearby Williamson County, TN in 1830. That is someone I can't place, and perhaps "Wier" was actually a misread "Wash". I've not checked the original on that yet, but I don't think it is him.
If Washington died in the 1820-1830 timeframe, in Wayne Co, TN, then perhaps his widow and children were still around there in 1830. There were no apparent widows listed on the 1830 census in Wayne County, but there was one in neighboring Lawrence County: Lucinda Hensley (1781). She has been a mystery for some time. Her children were all born in NC, and she named one of them "Hickman", so that seems to show that she is somehow connected to the Buncombe Co, NC Hensley family. Her age, and that of her three known sons are a perfect match with the 1800, 1810 and 1820 census records for Washington Hensley. Unfortunately, this isn't enough evidence to conclude that Lucinda was Washington's widow, but it is certainly a strong possibility. See her own page for more data on her.
Washington Hensley and wife had several children per the 1800 through 1820 census records. Unfortunately, none of them are known yet.
Unknown Son (1794/1800). Washington Hensley had an apparent son this age with him in 1800 (age "under 10", born ca 1790/1800) and in 1810 (age 10-15, born ca 1794/1800) and in 1820 (age 16-25, born ca 1794/1804). It is possible that the male age 16-25 (c1794/1804) in 1820 was not this same son, but a younger one, born ca 1800/04. I can't say for sure.
Since I don't know where Washington was in 1830, I can't say if this son was still at home, or married or dead by then.
If the theory about Lucinda Hensley (c1781) being Washington's widow is correct, then this could be James Hensley (c1799/1800). Otherwise, I don't know who this might have been.
Unknown Daughter (1794/1800). Washington Hensley had no apparent daughter this age with him in 1800, but he did have one this age in 1810 (age 10-15, born ca 1794/1800), so if she was a daughter, (and not a boarder of some sort), then she was probably born in the year 1800. She was not with Washington for the 1820 census, so married or dead by then.
Unknown Son (1800/10). Washington Hensley had an apparent son this age with him in 1810 (age "under 10", born ca 1810/20). I'm not sure if he was still at home in 1820 or not. He had two sons in 1820 age 16-25, born ca 1794/1804). This could be him, if born ca 1800/04. It is possible that one of the males age 16-25 (c1794/1804) in 1820 was not this same son, but the older one (see above) born ca 1794/1800. I can't say for sure from only this record.
Since I don't know where Washington was in 1830, I can't say if this son was still at home, or married or dead by then.
Unknown Son (1800/04). Washington Hensley had an apparent son this age with him in 1810 (age "under 10", born ca 1800/10) and in 1820 (age 16-25, born ca 1794/1804).
Since I don't know where Washington was in 1830, I can't say if this son was still at home, or married or dead by then.
If the theory about Lucinda Hensley (c1781) being Washington's widow is correct, then this could be Russell Hensley (c1804). Otherwise, I don't know who this might have been.
Unknown Son (1804/10). Washington Hensley had an apparent son this age with him in 1810 (age "under 10", born ca 1800/10) and in 1820 (age 10-15, born ca 1804/10).
Since I don't know where Washington was in 1830, I can't say if this son was still at home, or married or dead by then.
If the theory about Lucinda Hensley (c1781) being Washington's widow is correct, then this could be Hickman Hensley (1806). Otherwise, I don't know who this might have been.
Unknown Daughter (1804/10). Washington Hensley had an apparent daughter this age with him in 1810 (age "under 10", born ca 1800/10) and in 1820 (age 10-15, born ca 1804/10).
Since I don't know where Washington was in 1830, I can't say if this daughter was still at home, or married or dead by then.
Unknown Son (1810/20). Washington Hensley had an apparent son this age with him in 1820 (age "under 10", born ca 1810/20).
Since I don't know where Washington was in 1830, I can't say if this son was still at home, or married or dead by then.
Unknown Daughter (1810/20). Washington Hensley had an apparent daughter this age with him in 1820 (age "under 10", born ca 1810/20).
Since I don't know where Washington was in 1830, I can't say if this daughter was still at home, or married or dead by then.
Unknown Daughter (1810/20). Washington Hensley had an apparent daughter this age with him in 1820 (age "under 10", born ca 1810/20).
Since I don't know where Washington was in 1830, I can't say if this daughter was still at home, or married or dead by then.
Unknown Daughter (1810/20). Washington Hensley had an apparent daughter this age with him in 1820 (age "under 10", born ca 1810/20).
Since I don't know where Washington was in 1830, I can't say if this daughter was still at home, or married or dead by then.
