William Hensley was born ca 1807/08 per his age on the 1850 census (42). He was born somewhere in Virginia (per 1850 census) probably in Albemarle Co., VA.

William is probably a son of Benjamin Hensley (c1782) and Mary Melton who were his neighbors. I have no direct proof that they were his parents, but it seems likely.

William would have been about 2 years old for the 1810 census. Unfortunately I haven't found Benjamin on that census, but it seems likely he would have had a son about William's age listed.

William would have been about 12 years old for the 1820 census. Benjamin was in Kanawha that year with 1 son age 10-15 (1804/10). That is probably William.

William would have been about 22 for the 1830 census. Benjamin Hensley was in Kanawha then and had two apparent sons aged 20-29 (1800/10), one of whom is probably William.

William Hensley married Sarah (---) in the 1830's, before ca 1838 in Kanawha Co., VA. She was born ca 1807/08 in Virginia (both per 1850 census). Her 1880 census entry listed her birth place as "Va now W Va" indicating she was born in one of the present day West Virginia counties. I don't know her maiden name.

They are listed on the 1840 census in Kanawha County. They weren't listed near any of the other Hensleys.

William Hensley is listed on the 1840 Kanawha Co., VA tax list. He has no slaves and one horse.

Putnam County was formed in 1848 from part of Kanawha and other counties. The Hensleys fell into the new county or else moved there before 1850.

They are listed in Putnam for the 1850 census. Probable brother Winston Hensley (c1819) is next door and probable parents Benjamin and Mary are two houses away. Although it appears that Ambrose Thomas is living with them, I think he is the head of the next household and just mis-numbered.

They are in Putnam Co., VA for the 1860 census, next door to his parents and two houses from brother Winston. The census taker only listed initials.

They were in neighboring Kanawha for the 1870 census two houses from son Mordecai.

I wasn't able to find them on the 1880 census in Kanawha or Putnam or elsewhere. Perhaps both William and Sarah died in the 1870's.
