I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to Joshua Jenkins, but I'm sure he is somehow closely related to my ancestor Osborne Jenkins (c1803).
Joshua Jenkins was born ca 1756/57, based on a record dated 3 Sep 1778 where he was listed as 21 years old. That means he was born sometime ca 1756/1757, presumably in Onslow County, North Carolina.
I don't know who Joshua Jenkins's parents were, but it seems a reasonable assumption that he is a son of Henry Jenkins (c1732) for Joshua did witness one of Henry Jenkins's deeds. This doesn't prove a father/son relationship, but it makes it a possibility.
The first record I've found for Joshua Jenkins is his enlistment record for the Revolutionary War. On 3 Sep 1778, Joshua Jenkins was listed as a soldier, a Corporal, from Onslow County, a resident of New River. Born New River. His height was 5' 6", he was 21 years old, and had Grey eyes.
On 4 Jan 1785, Joshua Jenkins and Andrew Fullwood witnessed a deed from Stephen Middleton to Henry Jenkins (his father?). (Onslow Co, NC Deed Book N page 45, from Records of Onslow County, North Carolina, Vol I by Zae Harget Gwynn, and all subsequent deeds cited on this page are from this book or Vol II, except for those in Deed Books 23 and later which I abstracted myself from the original Deed Books).
Joshua Jenkins was listed on the 1786 state census. This record would seem to indicate that Joshua was married with two kids by this time. I have not found a record of his wife's name.
1784-1787 NC census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

Joshua Jenkins was still in Onslow for the 1790 census.

The 1790 census is the last record I've found for Joshua Jenkins in Onslow County. He either died or moved away shortly after 1790.
Joshua Jenkins and wife had at least two children per the 1786 and 1790 census records.
Unknown Son (1774/86)
