I (Marty Grant) don't know how (or if) I'm related to George Sanders. I am very interested in him though.
George W. Sanders was born ca 1809/10 in Marion Dist, SC (per 1850 census).
I believe George may be a son of Peter Sanders, but have no solid proof of that. Peter had an apparent son the right age to be George with him in 1810 and 1820 census.
For the 1810 census, George would have been about 1 year old or less, if born at all, so probably listed in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1800/10). John Sanders (1755/65), Thomas Sanders (1765/84) and Peter Sanders (1770/75) both had at least one apparent son that age with them in 1810.
In 1820, George would have been about 9 or 10 years old, so either enumerated in the 10-15 age group (born ca 1804/10) or in the "under 10" group (born ca 1810/20). John Sanders (1755/65) and Peter Sanders (1770/75) had apparent sons who could match George in 1820.
In 1830, George would have been 19 or 20 years old, so possibly listed in the 15-19 age group (born ca 1810/15) or in the 20-29 age group (born ca 1800/10). None of the Marion County Sanders had any apparent sons 20-29, but Peter Sanders (1770/75) did have an apparent son age 15-19 with him in 1830. He was the only possible match that year. This does not prove he is George's father, but it does make him a strong suspect.
George Sanders married Lucy --- ca 1830/38 in Marion Dist, SC. I don't know her maiden name.
George Sanders was listed on the 1840 census in Marion Dist, SC. He was listed next to Thomas Sanders, who was probably his brother. They were apparently in the Brittons Neck region.
1840 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)
1840 Marion District, SC pg 183 G.W. Sanders 0000100000000-1000010000000 Analysis: 1 Male(s) 20-29 (1810-1820) George W. SANDERS (1809/10) s/o Peter 1 Female(s) 30-39 (1800-1810) Lucy --- Sanders (1804/05) wife 1 Female(s) 0-4 (1835-1840) Lucy SANDERS (1837/38) daughter
George Sanders and family were listed on the 1850 census in Marion County just 1 household from Thomas Sanders, who was about the same age, so could be his brother, and since they were next to each other in 1840, they apparently hadn't moved during that time. They were apparently in the Brittons Neck area, based on their neighbors.

Neither George, nor his wife, nor any of their children were found in Marion Dist, SC in 1860 (or 1870), so I suppose they all moved away (or all died).
George and Lucy had several children, but I have no additional information on them. Check out the report section to see what I have on them.
