I (Marty Grant) don't know how (or if) I'm related to Peter Sanders. I am sure he is somehow related to my ancestor Kesiah Saunders Crawford.
Their surname is given variously as "Saunders" and as "Sanders", though it seems "Sanders" is the more common spelling.
Peter Sanders was born ca 1775/80 per census analysis. In 1800 he was listed as age 16-25 , or born ca 1774/84. In 1810 he was listed as age 26-44, or born ca 1765/84. In 1820 he was 26-44 (1775/94). In 1830 he was age 50-59 (born ca 1770/80). All of these reconcile to ca 1775/80. Peter would have been born in Georgetown District, now Marion County, South Carolina.
I believe Peter Sanders is a son of John Sanders and Elizabeth ---, but I have no direct evidence of that, but they did have an apparent son his age in 1790, and John did deed land to Peter, and they did live near each other. This is not solid proof, but it is all I have to go on so far.
Peter Sanders was not listed on the 1790 census, so probably still at home with his parents. He would have been enumerated in the "under 16" age group (born ca 1774/90). Of the five Sanders households in Georgetown District, four had at least one apparent son this age, including John Sanders (1755/65) who I suspect is his father.
Sometime in the 1790's, Peter Sanders married someone. I've not yet found a record of her name. She was born ca 1765/74.
In 1798 (effective 1800), Marion District was formed from Georgetown District, including the area where the Sanders lived.
For the 1800 census, Peter Sanders was listed in Marion District just a few houses from John Sanders his probable father. Peter was listed between Christopher Due (Dew) and Richard Adams.

For the 1810 census, Peter Sanders was still in Marion, and listed between William Whitfield and Enos Tart. He was not listed near any other Sanders at this time.

On 25 May 1810, John Sanders sold 100 acres to Peter Sanders, for $100, described as on the east end of Pigen (Pigeon) Bay. Witnesses were Thomas Finclea and Martha Finclea. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book E, page 234).
Peter Sanders was not listed on the 1811 Marion tax list. He ought to have been listed seeing as how he had 100 acres of land.
On 3 Oct 1811, Peter Sanders and William Baker Jr witnessed a deed from James Crawford and John Mace to Gadi Crawford. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book F, page 23, from "Marion County South Carolina Abstracts of Deeds Volume Two Books F-I & K 1811-1823", by Lucille Utley, and Alita White Sutcliffe, 1997 * All other deeds referred to on this page in Books F through K are also from this book).
Peter Sanders was not listed on the 1814 Marion tax list.
On 27 Oct 1819 Peter Sanders made a statement on behalf of Felicia Brewington: "Peter Sanders was personally acquainted with Phelechia Brewington who was the grandmother of McKarina McDaniel wife of James McDaniel of Marion Dist, and he does believe she was a free white woman. (Marion Co, SC Deed Book I, page 126).
In 1820, Peter was listed as head of household in Marion District. Unfortunately, this census was alphabetical, so I can't tell who their neighbors were, nor where they might have been living. There was no older woman in the household, so apparently Mrs. Sanders had died in the 1810-20 timeframe.

Peter Sanders was not listed on the 1824 Marion Tax List.
Peter Sanders was listed on the 1830 census in Marion District. This census was alphabetical so we can't tell where he lived exactly, or who his neighbors were. He seems to have not remarried, for their were no females in the household.
1830 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)
1830 Marion District, SC pg 45 Peter Sanders 0011000100000-0000000000000 Analysis: 1 Male(s) 50-59 (1770-1780) Peter SANDERS (1775/80) s/o John 1 Male(s) 15-19 (1810-1815) Son? (1810/15) 1 Male(s) 10-14 (1815-1820) Son? (1815/20)
Peter Sanders must have died in the 1830's, for he was not listed on the 1840 census. There was a younger Peter Sanders listed, but not this Peter. I did not find an Equity or Probate record for Peter Sanders.
Peter Sanders and wife seemed to have a large family per the 1800 through 1830 census records. I have no direct proof of any of their children, but it seems highly likely that Thomas and George were their children, but that is just based on circumstantial evidence. There are other potential children as well.
Unknown Daughter (1784/90). Peter Sanders had an apparent daughter this age with him in 1800 (age 10-15, born ca 1784/90). She was not home in 1810, so probably married or dead by then. Since her apparent birth date pre-dates 1790, it is possible that she is not a child of Peter at all since he did not seem to be married yet by 1790.
Unknown Son (1790/1800). Peter Sanders had an apparent son this age. He was home in 1800, age "under 10" (born ca 1790/1800), but gone by 1810, so probably married or dead by then.
I have no clue who this son might have been. The 1810 and 1820 census shows no new Sanders head of household this age in Marion District.
Unknown Son (1794/1800). Peter Sanders had an apparent son this age. He was home in 1800, age "under 10" (born ca 1790/1800), and still home in 1810, aged 10-15 (born ca 1794/1800), but gone by 1820, so probably married or dead by then.
I have no clue who this son might have been. The 1820 census shows no new Sanders head of household this age in Marion District.
Unknown Son (1800/04). Peter Sanders had an apparent son this age. He was home in 1810, age "under 10" (born ca 1800/10), and still home in 1820, aged 16-25 (born ca 1794/1804), but gone by 1830, so probably married or dead by then.
There are several Sanders of this age who could be Peter's son. First, there is Thomas Sanders (c1804) who was still in Marion in 1850 and 1860. He could be Peter's son. Based only on a gut feeling, I have included him as a child of Peter, but I could be wrong. Another possibility is Robert W. Sanders (c1803) who was in Marion until moving to Georgetown.
There is Peter Sanders (c1803) who married Nancy Clark, and lived in Marion until the 1840's when he moved to Georgetown District. He fits age-wise, and the name is certainly a good reason to consider him as part of this family.
Unknown Son (1804/10). Peter Sanders had an apparent son this age. He was home in 1810, age "under 10" (born ca 1800/10), and still home in 1820, aged 10-15 (born ca 1804/10), but gone by 1830, so probably married or dead by then.
I suspect that this is George W. Sanders (c1810) who was still in Marion in 1850, and living near Thomas (c1804). I have no solid proof that George is Peter's son though.
Unknown Daughter (1804/10). Peter Sanders had an apparent daughter this age. She was home in 1810, age "under 10" (born ca 1800/10), and still home in 1820, aged 10-15 (born ca 1804/10), but gone by 1830, so probably married or dead by then.
I have no clue who this could be.
Unknown Son (1810/15). Peter Sanders had an apparent son this age. He was home in 1820, age "under 10" (born ca 1810/20), and still home in 1830, age 15-19 (born ca 1810/15).
I don't know who this son could be.
Unknown Son (1815/20). Peter Sanders had an apparent son this age. He was home in 1820, age "under 10" (born ca 1810/20), and still home in 1830, age 10-14 (born ca 1815/20).
I don't know who this son could be.
