I (Marty Grant) don't know how (or if) I'm related to Thomas Sanders. I am very interested in him though.
Thomas Sanders was born ca 1803/04 in Marion Dist, SC.
I believe he may be a son of Peter Sanders, but have no solid proof of that. Peter did have an apparent son the right age to be Thomas, per the 1810 and 1820 census.
For the 1810 census, Thomas would have been about 6 year old, so probably listed in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1800/10). John Sanders (1755/65), Thomas Sanders (1765/84) and Peter Sanders (1770/75) both had at least one apparent son that age with them in 1810.
In 1820, Thomas would have been about 16 years old, so either enumerated in the 10-15 age group (born ca 1804/10) or in 16-25 age group (born ca 1794/1804). John Sanders (1755/65) had two in the older group, one in the younger. Peter Sanders (1770/75) had three apparent sons in the appropriate age groups..
Thomas Sanders was listed on the 1830 census in Marion District. This census was alphabetical so we can't tell where he lived exactly, or who his neighbors were. He had two women about his age with him. One could be his wife, and the other a sister or sister-in-law, or it is possible both were sisters. (Neither of their ages match his apparent wife from the 1840 census). There is also the distinct possibility (if not probability) that this is the other Thomas Sanders who married Judith --- right around this time. I'll include the listing even though it is probably for that other Thomas.

The 1840 Marion Dist, SC census shows Thomas Sanders next door to his probable brother George W. Sanders. They were apparently in the Brittons Neck region.

I don't know what happened to his family, but by 1850 Thomas was living alone. It is possible that all the people living with him in 1840 were not his own wife and children. More research is needed on that subject.
On the 1850 census, Thomas Sanders was in Marion County just 1 household from George Sanders, who was about the same age, so could be his brother. They were apparently in the Brittons Neck area, based on their neighbors.

Thomas Sanders was still in the Brittons Neck region for the 1860 census, still apparently single (or widowed).

I didn't find Thomas Sanders on the 1870 or 1880 census, so he had either died (or moved away) by then.
Thomas Sanders seemed to have a large family as of the 1840 census, but by 1850 he was apparently single (or widowed) with no obvious children. It is possible the apparent wife and children with him in 1840 were just some other family residing with him at that time. He might not have ever married.
