William Watson was born ca 1803/04 per
his age in 1850 (46). He was born in Brunswick
Co., NC a son of
William Watson and Rebecca (---) as proven
by William Sr.s 1845 Will. William was apparently home with his parents for the 1810 census age under 10 (1800/10), and still seemingly home in 1820 aged 10-15 (1804/10). William was listed on the 1830 census in Brunswick but not near his parents. On 28 May 1841 William Watson obtained a marriage bond in Brunswick to marry Margaret Skipper. Thomas Watson (his brother) was the bondsman. Margaret A. Skipper was born May 1822 (per 1900 census) in Brunswick Co., NC. I dont know who her parents were. Sarah Caroline Watson
was born June 1843 in Brunswick. She was
with her parents in 1850 (Sarah age 8), and in
1860 (Sarah C. age 18).
I didnt find her in 1870, but by that time she was married to Reuben Johnson. He wasnt listed on the 1870 census either. They were listed on the 1880 census in Brunswick in Town Creek Township: Reubin Johnson, 70, NC-NC-NC; Caroline 35 wife; William 17 son; Alaxander 17 son; Mary J. 4 dau. Reuben Johnson died between 1880 and 1900. Sarah was listed on the 1900 census with her daughter Eliza in Town Creek Township: William Mintz, head, Jan 1869, 31, married 3 years; Liza, wife Jan 1877 23, 2 children born, 1 living; Wilburn, son, Apr 1898, 2; Sarah C. Johnson, M-in-law, Jun (or Jan) 1843, 57, widowed, 4 children born, 3 living. She was still with her daughter in 1910 in Town Creek: William N. Mintz, 40 married once, 13 years; Mary E. wife 36, married once, 6 children born, 5 living; Wilbur, son 12; Maggie dau 8; Nancy G. 6 dau; Lanora B. dau 4; William C. son 1 5/12; Sarah C. Rachel J. Watson was
born Jul 1844 in Brunswick. She was with
her parents in 1850 (Rachael age 6). On 4 Jun 1860 J. W. Benton obtained a marriage bond in Brunswick to marry R. J. Watson. N. B. Skipper was bondsman. James W. Benton was born Oct 1841 in Brunswick. He may be the same James Benton who was a son of Nelson Benton and Mary (---). That James was with his parents in Brunswick on the 1850 census age 8. Im not entirely sure it is the same James or not, but certainly could be. Mary Watson was born
ca 1844/45 in Brunswick County. She was with her
parents in 1850 (Mary age 5), and with them in
1860 (Mary age 15) and still home in 1870
(Mary age 23). She was also listed in 1870 next door to her parents with her sister Rachel Benton. On that record there is a young child, McKeithan Watson, age 1 living with her. Is he her son? He could be, but I dont know that for sure. She may have had several other children out of wedlock as well. There was no sign of young McKeithan Watson in 1880. It is entirely possible that McKeithan is the same person as Wiley (1869-1940) who was a son of Marys sister Rebecca. Marys twin children Thomas and Martha were with the family in 1880. There is a marriage record dated 4 Dec 1886 in Brunswick for Matthew W. Jordan, age 20 and Mary Watson, age 41 (c1845) which is probably this same Mary Watson. Matthew was born ca 1865/66 in Brunswick Co., NC a son of Matthew Jordan and Marena (---). I didnt find Matthew and Mary on the 1900 census, but strangely I found one of Marys sons (Thomas J. Watson) living with a Joseph Jordan (Jan 1866) and Mary Jordan (Jan 1860). Thomas and his wife are listed as boarders in that household. I would suspect they are related to his step-father Matthew Jordan. |

Rebecca Watson was
born March 1847 per the 1900 census, or 22 Feb
1847 per her tombstone. She was born in
Brunswick Co., NC. She was with her parents in
1850 (Rebecca age 3), and with them in 1860
(Rebecca age 13) and with them in 1870
(Rebecca age 21). Rebecca had a child out of wedlock in Jun 1869 named Wiley W. Watson (who may be the same person as McKeithan Watson listed on the 1870 census, age 1). Wileys death certificate gives his mother as Rebecca Williams and father as Ned Watson. There was no such person as Ned Watson as far as I know. Rebecca Watson married John F. Mintz on 11 Jan 1880 in Brunswick. He was born March 1847. He is a son of Stephen and Rebecca (---) Mintz. He was first married to Margaret A. Mintz on 4 Feb 1869. They are listed on the 1880 census in Brunswick in Town Creek Township: John F. Mints, 33 Farmer, NC-NC-NC; Rebecca 33 wife keeping house; Sarah J. 10 dau; Sarah 11 dau (sic), John W. 6 son; Wisly Watson 10 step-son. They are listed on the 1900 census in Brunswick in Town Creek Township. His widowed mother is living with them: John F. Mints, head Mar 1847, 53, married 26 years, NC-NC-NC; Rebecca wife, Mar 1847, 537, 1 child born, 1 living; Sarah A. dau Apr 1871, 29; John W. Son Sep 1872 27, Rebecca mother, Jan 1814, 86, widowed, 7 children born, 7 living. They are still in Town Creek for the 1910 census: John F. Mints, Head, 63 married twice, 29 years; Rebecca wife, 63, married once 29 years, 1 child born, 1 living. I didnt find John F. Mintz or wife Rebecca on the 1920 census. Rebecca Watson Mintz died on 4 Apr 1923 in Brunswick (per death certificate) and is buried at the Benton Family Cemetery. She was already a widow when she died, so John F. Mintz died sometime between 1910 and 1923. John and Rebecca had no children together, but he had two from a previous marriage, and Rebecca had Wiley W. Watson before she married John Mintz. |

Margaret Ann Watson
was born ca 1848/49 in Brunswick Co., NC.
She was with her parents for the 1850 census
(Margaret age 1) and with them in 1860
(Margaret age 12), and with them in 1870
(Margarett age 19). She shouldnt have been listed at home in 1870 for she was already married by then. She married Stephen J. Mintz before ca 1870. He was a brother to John F. Mintz who married Margarets sister Rachel. Margaret had a daughter Sarah Jane before she married Stephen Mintz. Sarah is listed as Watson on some records and Mintz on others. They are listed on the 1870 census in Brunswick in Town Creek two houses from his widowed mother and next door to Margarets widowed mother: Stephen Mints, 21, Farmer NC; Margarett 21; Sarah 4. They are listed on the 1880 census in Town Creek near several relatives: Stephen Mints, 30; Margret 31 wife; Sarah 17 step-daughter; Stephen F. 10 son; Alice 8 dau; Julia A. 6 dau; Rufus 4 son; Jefferson 2 son. They are listed on the 1900 census in Brunswick in Town Creek Township near several relatives: Stephen J. Mints, Head, Jan 1849, 51 married 30 years; Margaret wife Feb 1855 45, 6 children born, 6 living; Rufus T. son Apr 1878 22; Jefferson P. son May 180 20; Warren E. son Mar 1882 18. | Cincilla Watson was born ca 1850 in Brunswick Co., NC. She wasnt with her parents on the 1850 census, so probably not born yet. She was with them in 1860 (Cincilla age 10). She wasnt with them in 1870 so probably married or dead by then. I dont know if she married or not. |
| Moreno Watson was born ca 1851/52 in Brunswick. She was with her parents for the 1860 census (Moreno age 8). The first time I read that I misread it as Manerva. She wasnt with her parents in 1870, so probably married to someone or dead by then. |

William Franklin Watson
was born ca 1853/54 in Brunswick Co., NC. He
was home with his parents in 1860 (William F.
age 6) and with them in 1870 (William age 17). Many years ago when I first began researching my Watson ancestry, I though this was my ancestor, also named William.Watson (1852). It turns out they are two different people. William died in Sep 1879 in Brunswick Co., NC of an inflammation of the bowels. He is listed on the 1880 Census Mortality Schedule as Frank Watson age 24, died Sept after being sick 25 days. His occupation was listed as made turpentine. It also shows that Frank was a member of family # 27 in Town Creek Township which is the family of his widowed siblings. |

Julia Watson was born
ca 1855/56 in Brunswick Co., NC. She was with
her parents in 1860 (Julia age 4) and with
them in 1870 (Julia age 14). Julia had several children out of wedlock beginning in 1873. I dont know who the fathers of any of the children were. On 3 Feb 1879, Julia Watson, age 21, married Daniel J. Mintz, age 20 in Brunswick County. He was born in 1859 in Brunswick, a son of Stephen and Rebecca Mintz, and a brother to the two other Mintz boys who married Julias sisters. Julia and her children were listed with her mother and siblings on the 1880 census. She is listed as married, though no spouse is listed. home with his parents in 1860 (Thomas B. age

not listed with his mother in 1870 for some
reason. He was with her in 1880 (Rufus J. age
18). In 1900 he was the head of household with
