I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to Thomas L. Collins. I am sure he is somehow related to my ancestor Jonah Collins (c1774).
Thomas L. Collins was born ca 1803/04 (per 1850 census) in Marion Dist, SC. I don't know what the "L" middle initial was for.
Thomas is a proven son of Thomas Collins (1765/70) as named in the estate records of Thomas Collins.
W.W. Sellers mentioned Thomas (Jr) in his History of Marion County, South Carolina, 1902, However, he apparently mixed up father and son when referring to Thomas Jr's children. Here is what Sellers wrote about him (page 512-513) (anything in brackets [...] was added by me):
... He [Thomas] had a son named Thomas (and perhaps others), who was the father of John, Solomon and Samuel, and probably four daughters. Solomon and John married sisters---the sisters of old Captain John Rogers, of the "Fork" section; and their father Thomas Collins Jr, married, for a second or third wife, another sister; thus it appears that the father's wife and the wives of his two sons, Solomon and John, were sisters---and if they all had offspring by the respective marriages, it would be difficult to tell what relation the children would be to each other. John Collins, the grand-son of old Thomas, was the father of the late Sheriff Robert Collins, and of his brothers, the late Stephen T. Collins and Samuel Collins; John may have had other sons and, perhaps, daughters, not known to the writer.
Sellers was mistaken when he referred to a Thomas Sr and Jr, and although there was a Thomas Jr, he was not the father of John, Solomon, etc, but their brother. I infer from this that he knew there was a Thomas Jr, but did not know much about him as he had him confused with his father, etc.
For the 1810 census, Thomas would have been about 6 years old, so he should be enumerated in the "under 10" age grouping (born ca 1800/10). His father Thomas did have two apparent sons that age in 1810.
For the 1820 census, Thomas would have been about 16 years old, so he ought to be enumerated in the 16-25 age group (born ca 1794/1804). His father Thomas did have two apparent sons that age in 1820.
For the 1830 census, Thomas would have been about 26 years old, so he should be enumerated in the 20-29 age group (born ca 1800/10). His father had no one that age with him in 1830. Thomas may have been living with another family as a laborer. His brother John Collins (c1798) had an extra male that age with him in 1830, and that could very easily be Thomas.
Thomas L. Collins married Beady --- before ca 1831. I don't know her maiden name.
Thomas L. Collins was listed on the 1840 census in Marion Dist, SC near his father Thomas Collins, and several of his brothers.

Unknown Daughter (1835/40). Thomas had an apparent daughter this age. She was apparently home with her parents for the 1840 census (age "under 5", born ca 1835/40). She was not home in 1850, so probably married or dead by then.
Stephen R. Collins was born 20 Apr 1840 (per tombstone) in Marion Dist, SC. He was apparently home with his parents for the 1840 census (age "under 5", born ca 1835/40), and home in 1850 ("Stephen" age 11).

Stephen R. Collins made his Will on 4 Mar 1892 naming five sons: John H., William Henry, Sidney R., Charles Franklin and Edy Monroe Collins and four daughters Mary E. Ann Levenior, Maggie and Minnie Collins. Also named Beddy Collins wife of Ronomy Collins, and his own wife Margaret Jane Collins. The Will was proven on 29 Mar 1892, so he had died by then. His tombstone (in Gapway Cemetery) shows he died on 2 May 1892. (Probate Roll # 2308, published in "Probate Records, Marion County, South Carolina Volume III", by Lucille Utley, Danny Smith, 1985).
Margaret was listed on the 1900 census in Legette Township. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.
Sellers mentioned a daughter (unnamed) of Stephen R. Collins in his the Fowler section of his book:
FOWLER. "Joseph Fowler married, first, a Miss Brown and had a family, how many not knownthey are grown; his Brown wife died, and he married again, a daughter of Stephen R.
