Revision History:

·        20 Apr 2008 - Created by Marty Grant, a 4th great grand nephew of Lemuel Floyd.

Lemuel Floyd was born ca 1799/1800 per his age on the 1850 census (50) and the 1860 census (60). He is a proven son of James Floyd and Elizabeth Lewis.

Lemuel seems to be with his parents for the 1800 census, aged under 10 (1790/1800). He seems to still be home for the 1810 census as well, aged 16-25 (1784/1794) though that isn’t a perfect age match.

Lemuel Floyd married someone in the 1810’s, presumably in Horry Dist., SC. Her name is unknown. She was born ca 1794/1804 per her age on the 1820 census. Her 1830 entry gives her age as 20-29 (1800/10), and in 1840 she was 40-49 (1790/1800). The only way to reconcile all three of those is if she was born ca 1800.

Lemuel Floyd was listed on the 1820 census in Horry, though his name is easily misread as “Samuel.”

Lemuel Floyd is listed on the 1845-1846 Horry District tax list and taxed for 865 acres and 14 slaves. (Horry County Historical Society)

Mrs. Floyd died in the 1840’s for she is not listed with Lemuel on the 1850 census.

Lemuel Floyd is listed on the 1850 census in Horry District next door to Joseph Floyd (son of Hugh Floyd) and wife Prudence (daughter of Pugh Floyd):

Notice that Caroline Floyd age 21 is listed last. Is she a daughter of Lemuel? He did have daughters that age per the 1830 and 1840 census. Or is she a second wife? If she was a wife she should have been listed immediately after Lemuel. No way to be sure though.

Lemuel Floyd was named in the ca 1850 Probate records as an heir of James and Elizabeth Floyd.

Lemuel is listed on the 1860 census in Horry District. Caroline was no longer home. If she was his second wife then she probably died. If a daughter then she was probably married by this time.
