Peter Grant was born ca 1827/28 per his age on the 1850 census
(22). The 1850 census listed his birth place as South Carolina. I
would guess he was born in Marlboro District or nearby. I don't know who his parents were. There were a couple of Grants in the area who qualify. Census analysis helps narrow it down a bit, but doesn't really prove who his parents are. By the 1830 census Peter would have been about two years old. There were two Grant households in Marlboro with sons under age 5 (born ca 1825/30): Malachi Grant (c1790) and William Grant (c1775). By 1840 Peter would have been about 12 years old. In Marlboro only William Grant (c1775) had a child that age with him, an apparent son aged 10-14 (c1825/30). In neighboring Richmond Co., NC Malachi Grant (c1790) had two boys who could fit, aged 10-23 (c1816/30), and John Grant Sr (c1780). had one boy that age but he is already positively identified as someone else. Peter Grant married Ann E. (---) sometime before ca 1847, presumably in Marlboro Dist., SC. Ann was born ca 1828/29 in SC. I don't know her maiden name. They are on the 1850 census in Marlboro Dist., SC. John Grant (c1829) is next door, relationship unknown.
They are still in Marlboro for the 1860 census, and in fact are listed twice. Their first entry is just two houses from Duncan Grant (c1816), relationship unknown. The second entry is just three houses from William Grant (c1833) son of William Grant (c1775). Ann, widow of the older William is 10 houses away.
They are still in Marlboro for the 1870 census, only listed once this time.
They are still in Marlboro for the 1880 census.

Ann was born in 1828/1829 in Marlboro Dist, SC. She died after 1880 in Marlboro Co, SC. They had the following children. 2 M i. Archibald Grant was born in 1846/1847 in Marlboro Dist, SC. He died after 1860 in Marlboro Dist, SC. 3 F ii. Drucilla Grant was born in 1850 in Marlboro Dist, SC. She died after 1860 in Marlboro Dist, SC. 4 F iii. Sarah Jane Grant was born in 1853/1854 in Marlboro Dist, SC. She died after 1870 in Marlboro Co, SC.
