I (Marty Grant) am not related to Addison Hensley as far as I know.

This family used the "Henslee" spelling most often, though some records were with the "Hensley" or other spellings. See "Hensley Spellings" for a commentary on this subject.

I don't know who Addison's parents are. There are a couple of suspects, but none are proven yet. I'll comment on the possible suspects in the census analysis section below. I'm partial to connecting him to Mackfield Hensley (c1778) and Frances Jones but only have slight circumstantial evidence for that.

Since Addison Hensley was born ca 1820, I don't know if he was born yet by the time of the 1820 census (taken "as of" June, 1820). If he was born yet, he would only be a few months old or less by the time the census taker came around, so he would be enumerated in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1810/20). Thomas Henslee (1780/84) had two apparent sons in that age group, though I believe both are accounted for. Benjamin Henslee (1790/94) had three sons this age, none of which are identified, and William Henslee (c1788) had four in that age group, none who are identified. Mackfield Hensley (c1778) had one apparent son in that age group also, who is unidentified. One of these four is very likely to be Addison's father.

For the 1830 census, Addison would have been about 10 years old. He should have been listed in the age 10-14 category (born ca 1815/20), or in the age 5-9 category (born ca 1820/25). Mackfield Hensley (c1778) had one apparent son in each of the probable age groups that Addison could fit into. William Henslee (c1788) had one son 10-14, and two 5-9. Thomas Henslee (1780/84) had one son 10-14, but I believe he is someone else.

For the 1840 census, Addison would have been about 20 years old, so should be enumerated in the 20-29 age group (born ca 1810/20) or in the 15-19 age group (born ca 1820/25). Bedford Hensley (c1809) had a male 20-29 with him in 1840 Caswell County. In fact, he is the only one.

On 15 Sep 1843, Addison Henslee obtained a marriage bond in Caswell County to marry Eliza Parks. John Henslee was the bondsman. I don't know which John this was, probably the same one who married Artilia Parks in 1840, and probably a brother to Addison (and perhaps Eliza is a sister to Artilia). I have no data on Eliza, such as birth date or parents names.

Eliza Parks Henslee died sometime between ca 1844 and 1847, presumably in Caswell County, North Carolina.

On 25 Nov 1847, Addison Henslee obtained a marriage bond in Caswell County to marry Rachel Musting. William J. Dobbs was bondsman. Rachel was born ca 1822/23 in Caswell County. I don't know who her parents were.

Addison and family were listed on the 1850 census in Caswell County. No other Henslee families were close by.

Addison and family were still in Caswell for the 1860 census, not too far (several pages away, but in the same district) from Frances Jones Henslee, his possible mother.

I have no data on Addison and family after this.

Children

Addison and his first wife Eliza seemed to have at least one child, and he and second wife Rachel had at least 5 children together. I have no additional data on any of them so far.
