Elias Hensley was born ca 1825/26 per his age on the 1850
census (24). He was born somewhere in Virginia (per 1850 census)
probably in that part of Virginia that later became West Virginia. I found one record that seemed to list him as Elias O. Hensley, but I'm not sure I read it correctly (a birth record for one of his children). I don't know who his parents were. He never lived particularly close to any of the other Wayne County Hensleys (according to the 1850 through 1880 census). Looking at the 1830 census, Elias would have been about 4 years old. In Cabell there was Samuel Hensley (c1790), John Hensley (1790/1800), and Samuel Hensley (c1804) who each had at least one son aged under 5 (born ca 1825/30). In 1840 Elias Hensley would have been about 14 years old. The two Samuels were the only ones in Cabell with apparent sons that age. Elias Hensley married Adaline (---) before ca 1848 probably in Wayne Co., VA (WV). She was born ca 1833/34 in Virginia (both facts per 1850 census). I don't know her maiden name. They are listed on the 1850 census in Wayne Co., VA, but not too close to the other Hensleys.
They are on the 1860 census in Wayne. The nearest Hensley is young Alexander age 4 living with James Stith (c1792) and Jane (c1806), relationship unknown, just two houses away.
They were still in Wayne for the 1870 census, and still not close to any other Hensleys. Jane "Crump" of the 1860 census is still with them, but now listed as Jane "Cross" unless this is two different people.
They are on the 1880 census in Wayne, and still not near any other Hensleys.
I don't know when Elias or Adaline died, though sometime after 1880, presumably in Wayne Co., WV. |
