John Hensley was born ca 1811/12 per his age on the 1850
census (38). He was born somewhere in Virginia (per 1850 census) or
perhaps in that part of Virginia that later became West Virginia. I don't know who his parents were. He named one of his sons "Bird" perhaps in honor of Ichabod C. "Bird" Hensley (c1810). They could be brothers, and if so, perhaps both are children of Solomon Hensley (c1779). Solomon and John were associated, so they could easily be father and son. John was a neighbor of Samuel Hensley (c1804), who could also be a brother or other close relative. John Hensley married Malinda (---) before ca 1838 in Cabell Co., VA (WV). She was born ca 1814/15 in Virginia (both facts per 1850 census). I don't know her maiden name. They were still in Cabell for the 1860 census, but not listed near any of the other Hensleys at this time.
They were still in Cabell for the 1870 census. Son Bird Hensley was next door with his family.
Malinda (---) Hensley died in the 1870's, presumably in Cabell Co., WV (no death record found). John was listed on the 1880 census in Cabell near several of his children.
