William Hensley was born 24 Sep 1814 per his tombstone.
That agrees with his ages on the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census all of
which show him born ca 1814/15. He was born in Rockingham Co., VA
(presumably). I have no direct proof but I think William is a son of James Hensley (c1781) and Elizabeth Maiden. The only other possibility is Benjamin Hensley (c1790), but since William married Benjamin's daughter, there is no way he is William's father too. Besides, Benjamin's children are proven by estate records. William would have been about 5 or 6 years old by the time of the 1820 census. Benjamin Hensley (c1790) had two boys under 10 and James Hensley (c1781) had three. No other Hensleys were listed in Rockingham County. William Hensley would have been about 15 or 16 for the 1830 census so he should be in the 15-19 age group (born ca 1810/1815). Benjamin (c1790) was listed in Rockingham but had no sons that age. James wasn't listed in 1830 for some reason. On 6 Apr 1840 William Hensley obtained a marriage bond in Rockingham Co., VA to marry Lucinda Hensley (from a list of marriage records made by Edith Tanner). Lucinda was born 18 Nov 1815 (per tombstone), presumably in Rockingham Co., VA. She is a proven child of Benjamin Hensley (c1790) and Nelly Meadows (per estate records). William and Lucinda are probably 1st cousins.
