I (Marty Grant) don't know how or if I'm related to C. Anna Johnson.

This family resided in Dog Bluff Township of Horry County.

The Horry County Johnson families were listed on most early census records with the spelling "Johnston", though in later census records, it was most often listed as "Johnson".

C. Anna Johnson was born ca 1830/31 (per 1870 census) or ca 1827/28 (per 1880 census). She was born in SC. I don't think she was a Johnson by birth, for the 1880 census showed her marital status as "widowed". However, I don't know who her husband was.

Anna's oldest known child (Francis) was born ca 1849/50 (per 1870 census) or ca 1844/45 (per 1880 census). This means she was married before ca 1850. I found no trace of her on the 1850 or 1860 census (at least not in Horry).

She could be the same Ann who was the 2nd wife of John L. Johnson (c1787). There are several correlations between this Anna and that Ann, but I'm not sure at all that they are the same person.

Whomever Anna was married to, he died before 1870. Their last known child was born ca 1855, so he could have died anytime between ca 1855 and 1870.

Anna was listed on the 1870 census in Horry County, in Dog Bluff Township, a widow with 2 children at home.

Anna and children were still in Horry, and in Dog Bluff Township for the 1880 census. Her son Francis was married by then, and his wife and children were all with Anna.

** I have not yet checked the 1900 or later census records for more data on this family.

Children

Anna seemed to have at least two children (per 1870 and 1880 census). I have very little data on them so far, so I'm not creating their own sections yet. See the Register Report below for what I have so far.
