Elizabeth (---) was born ca 1780/90, presumably in the area that later became Marion Co., SC. I don't know her maiden name. Elizabeth married a Mr. Johnson sometime prior to 1810 in Marion Dist., SC. I don't know who her husband was, but it seems likely he was related to the Samuel Johnson family since she lived in that same area (Temperance Hill). Mr. Johnson died before 1820 for Elizabeth was listed as head of household on that census, an apparent widow. (Note: It is possible she wasn't a widow at all, but a single mother instead. That is just a thought, I have no proof either way.) Unfortunately, this census was also alphabetical, so I can't tell where she lived, nor who her neighbors were. Granddaughter? (1820/25) I did not find Elizabeth Johnson on the 1840 census. She may have died in the 1830/40 timeframe, or possibly remarried, or been residing with a married child or other relatives. I did not find any Equity or Probate records for Elizabeth Johnson. Sellers spoke of this family, in a vague way, but I think what he said helps a little bit. He was referring to the Johnsons of Temperance Hill and he mentioned Hardy and Zeno Johnson as being descendants of this family. He did not say their ancestors name, but I think (based on various bits of circumstantial evidence) that they are children of Elizabeth Johnson:

was still home in 1830 aged 15-19 (c1810/15). I don't have absolute proof, but I think this could be Emanuel Johnson. I could be very wrong about placing him in this family, but he does fit. |
