I (Marty Grant) am not related to Wallace A. Moore as far as I know. There is a slim possibility that he is related to my ancestor William H. Moore (1726) or my other Moore ancestor Burton Moore (c1756).

There is probably a great deal of source documentation available for this family in Lincoln County records, but I have not yet done much digging into it. I will do that as time permits. In the meantime, I'll present what I do have available mostly from Macon County records.

Wallace A. Moore was born ca 1795/96 (per 1850, 1870 and 1880 census) in Lincoln County, North Carolina (per 1850 and 1860 census). I don't know what his "A" middle initial stands for, though it might be for "Alexander".

I do knot know who Wallace's parents were, but the answer is probably to be found in Lincoln County records.

Wallace would have been about 4 years old by the time of the 1800 census, so he ought to be enumerated in the "Under 10" age group (born ca 1790/1800). There were quite a few Moores in Lincoln in 1800, and all but one of them had at least one son this age, so this does not help narrow down his possible parents.

For the 1810 census, Wallace would have been about 14 years old, so probably enumerated in the 10-15 age group (born ca 1794/1800). Only three Moore households in Lincoln County had apparent sons in that age group: William Moore (bef 1755), Moses Moore (1762), and John Moore (1755/74).

By the 1820 census, Wallace would have been about 24 years old, so ought to be listed in the 16-25 age group. He was old enough to be listed on his own, but he was not listed in Lincoln County, so probably still with his parents or some other family. Moses Moore (1762), Alexander Moore (bef 1755), were the only ones with an apparent son that age. An Alexander Moore Jr was listed who himself seemed to be that age. If Wallace's middle name was "Alexander", then this could be him, but I have no idea if it is him.

Wallace A. Moore married Sarah E. --- sometime before ca 1828, presumably in Lincoln County (no marriage record found). Sarah was born ca 1804/05 (per 1850 census) in Lincoln County (per 1850 and 1860 census). I don't know her maiden name, nor her parents identity.

I did not find Wallace listed on the 1830 census in Lincoln County. Based on the birth places of his children he should have still been there that year. "Alexander Jr" was still there and his age matches Wallace's, but I have no data proven that is him.

Between ca 1836 and ca 1838, Wallace moved his family a few counties westward into Macon County, North Carolina. There were several Moores already there, but I know of no relationship to any of them.

They were listed on the 1840 census in Macon County. They were not listed near any other Moore families. I'm not sure what part of Macon County they were living in.

On 10 Feb 1846, Wallace A. Moore and Benjamin Stiles witnessed two deeds between Jesse Kirby of Cherokee County to Thomas M. Angel of Macon. The first was from Kirby to Angel, for 57 acres on Ellijay Creek. The other was from Angel to Kirby, also for land on Ellijay Creek. This deed is of interest for two reasons. First, it may indicate that Wallace A. Moore lived on or near Ellijay Creek, and secondly it may show a relationship to one or both of the parties to the deed. Most notably, Jesse Kirby was married to Rachel Moore, daughter of John Parker Moore (1765) of Macon County. This may be a big coincidence, or it may indicate that Wallace Moore is somehow related to John Parker Moore, but I don't know of any such connection. I don't know anything about Thomas Angel or Benjamin Stiles.  (Macon Co, NC Deed Book E page 41 and 86 from "Records of Old Macon County, N.C. 1829-1850" compiled by Barbara Sears McRae, 1991. * Note: All deeds mentioned hereafter from books "A" through "E" are taken from this book.)

Wallace and family were listed on the 1850 census in Macon County. They were not listed too near any other Moore families, though Johial Moore (1814) was not too far away, about 15 households.

They were still in Macon for the 1860 census, and very close to Johial Moore (1814) this time. I don't know if they are related, but I'm of the opinion they are not, or at least not closely.

Sometime in the 1860's, Wallace moved his family to neighboring Towns County, Georgia. They were listed there on the 1870 census.

Children

Wallace A. Moore and wife Sarah had 9 children as proven by the 1850 and other census records. I have tracked them somewhat through the census and marriage records, but have not followed them too far down the line. See the Register Report below for more information on them.
