I (Marty Grant) don't know how or if I'm related to the Benjamin Turner family. I am very interested in him though.
Benjamin Turner was born ca 1829/30 in South Carolina, presumably in Marion District in the region that later became Florence County (in 1888).
I once though this was the same Benjamin who is a son of Robert Turner (c1803) of Williamsburg. It is very possible that the Benjamin of Williamsburg and the Benjamin of Marion are not the same person. The one in Marion could be a son of Hugh Turner instead, as he lived near him. The two Benjamin's are about the same age, and lived in the same general area, though in different counties.
Benjamin would have been with his parents in 1830 and 1840, but I don't know where to look for him.
Benjamin was not listed on the 1850 census unless he is the same "Ben Turner" age 20 with Robert Turner (c1803) in Williamsburg that year. I did not find any other Benjamin Turners in any neighboring county in 1850 either (Darlington, Marlboro, Williamsburg, etc.).
Benjamin married ca 1850 to Mary --- (no clues on her maiden name). They probably married in Williamsburg District (if he is that same Benjamin) or they married in Marion District.
Benjamin and Mary were found across Lynches River in 1860. They were listed there for the 1860 census, in the area that later became McMillan Township (near Effingham). He was two houses Hugh Turner and family. Benjamin was next door to James Turner and in close proximity to several other Turner families in that area. All of these Turners seem to be related.

For the Civil War, I found no record for Benjamin Turner serving.
For the 1870 census, Benjamin and family were listed in Marion County, in McMillan Township (now Florence County), just a few houses from several Turners including Hugh E. Turner, Francis Turner (son of James D. Turner), and Reuben W. Turner (son of Reuben Turner). At this time, Benjamin seems to have a new wife, Margaret ---, so Mary must have died in the 1860's.

In 1880, Benjamin and Margaret and family were still in McMillan Township, still close to various other Turners.

In 1888, McMillan Township and other parts of Marion and neighboring counties were cut off to form the new County of Florence. Benjamin and family were to be found in that county from 1888 onward. I haven't followed up on them there.
I currently have no additional information on any of Benjamin Turner's children. I'll add to this, as I can. Note the names used are those found in the other Effingham area Turner families (i.e. George, Elijah, Reuben) and "Adam" is a Cusack family name, and they are closely tied in with the Turner families of old Darlington and Marion Counties (now Florence County).
