I don't know how I'm related to Penny Turner, probably a cousin of some sort.

Penny Turner was born ca 1840/41 per her age on the 1850 census (9). She was born in Marion Dist., SC (per 1850 census). I don't know who her parents were.

Penny was listed on the 1850 census with Cade Rogers (c1826) and Ann (---) Rogers (c1826) in Marion Dist., SC. They were living in Turner territory so she is probably tied to the extensive John Turner and Patience Smith family somehow. On this census the nearest Turner was Rhoda Turner (c1825) about 11 houses away. Ann Turner (c1820) was about 12 houses away in the other direction.  Ann or Rhoda could be Penny's mother for they were both single mothers and old enough to be Penny's mom too: # 1136/1144 Cade Rogers 24 Farmer, born Marion; Ann 24; Elizabeth 3; Henry 2; Penny Turner 9.

Why was Penny with the Rogers family? Were they her uncle and aunt? Was Ann (---) Rogers her mother and married Mr. Rogers after Penny's birth? Cade Rogers was born ca 1825/26 and his wife Ann ca 1825/26 also. Ann would have been about 15 or 16 when Penny Turner was born, so that works. I don't know who Cade Rogers' parents were, nor what Ann's maiden name was.

I wasn't able to find Penny Turner on the 1860 census. Cade and Ann Rogers were listed in Marion District, in the same general neighborhood, but Penny wasn't with them or listed elsewhere as far as I could determine.

Penny was "back" for the 1870 census and listed in Marion Co., SC with children of her own. She was four houses from Elizabeth Turner Ammons, daughter of Daniel Turner (c1796), and next door to Winnie Turner Collins, also a child of Daniel Turner: Moody Township, Marion PO, # 57/57 Penny Turner, 30 mulatto Farm Laborer, SC; Mary 7 mulatto ; Joe 7 mulatto; Peter 4 black; Francess 2 (female) black.

I wasn't able to find Penny Turner on the 1880 census in Marion or elsewhere. She may have died in the 1870's or perhaps married. I wasn't able to find any of her children in 1880 either except son Joseph who was in Marion in Wahee Township near Stephen Turner, son of Daniel Turner (c1796).

Children of Penny Turner. Penny Turner had four children with her on the 1870 census. I have only been able to follow one of them, Joseph. The rest vanished after 1870.
