I (Marty Grant) don't know how I'm related to the Elizabeth Collins family. I am sure she is somehow related to my ancestor Jonah Collins (c1774), perhaps even his mother, though that is far from proven.

Elizabeth Collins was born before 1755, possibly in SC, or perhaps in another state. I don't know if she was a widow or a single mother. She was not listed on the 1786 tax list for either Prince George or Prince Frederick Parish, nor were there any male Collins listed there who might be her husband (only Dempsey Collins and William Collins were listed in 1786, and both of them were still around in 1790 and 1800.)

Elizabeth was listed on the 1790 census in Georgetown District, Prince George Parish. Unfortunately this census was alphabetical, so we can't tell where she lived exactly or who her neighbors were. Her household was fairly large, and her youngest children were born ca 1784/90, so whoever her husband had been, he probably died between ca 1784 and 1790.

Marion District was formed in 1798 (effective 1800) from Georgetown District.

Elizabeth Collins was listed on the 1800 census in Marion District. She was listed next door to Thomas Collins, who could easily be her son.
