I (Marty Grant) am not related to Thomas P. Moore as far as I know. There is a slim possibility that he is related to my ancestor William H. Moore (1726) or my other Moore ancestor Burton Moore (c1756).

Thomas P. Moore was born 22 Jul 1804 (per tombstone) in Buncombe County, North Carolina (per 1850 and 1860 census). His middle name may be "Patton", but I've not seen any direct evidence for that.

According to an old family history for this family (from 1887), Thomas P. Moore is a son of John Moore (1762) and Jane Patton. I have not seen any direct evidence supporting this, but it seems to me that the family history is probably accurate based on certain bits of circumstantial evidence, and the provable accuracy of other parts of that particular family record.

For the 1810 census, Thomas would have been about 6 years old, so probably enumerated in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1800/10). His father John did have two sons that age with him that year.

For the 1820 census, Thomas would have been about 16 years old, so should be enumerated in the 16-25 age group (born ca 1794/1804) or possibly in the 10-15 age group (born ca 1804/10). His father John Moore had 2 boys age 10-15 (but none in the 16-25 age group).

On 8 Feb 1828 Thomas P. Moor obtained a marriage bond in Rutherford County to marry Elizabeth Huggins. Hiram Clark was bondsman. Elizabeth 1 Mar 1810 (per tombstone) in Rutherford County (per 1850 and 1860 census). I think her parents are John Huggins and Sophia Porter of Rutherford and Macon County, but have no solid proof of that. Her mother was "S. Huggins" per the 1880 census, as she was living with the Moores that year. The age and initial fit well to be Sophia.

Thomas was listed on the 1830 census in Rutherford County. Unfortunately, this census was alphabetical, so I can't tell who their neighbors were, nor where they might have been living.

Around 1831, Thomas Moore moved his family a few counties westward into Macon County, North Carolina. There were several Moores already there, but I know of no relationship to any of them. Several of his siblings (and his mother) all seemed to move there about the same time. I don't know which was first, or if they moved as a group.

Thomas was listed as a voter for the 1835 Congressional Elections. He was listed as "Thomas P. Moore", and having voted in Macon County in Franklin Precinct.

Thomas was listed on the 1840 census in Macon County, just a few houses from Abner Moore (1801), no known relationship.

Children

Thomas P. Moore and wife Elizabeth had 8 children as proven by the various census records. I have tracked a couple of them somewhat through the census and marriage records, but have not followed them too far down the line. See the Register Report below for more information on them.
