I (Marty Grant) am not related to Tilenius Moore as far as I know. There is a slim possibility that he is related to my ancestor William H. Moore (1726) or my other Moore ancestor Burton Moore (c1756).

Tilenius Moore was born 2 May 1807 (per an 1887 Moore family history) or ca 1806/07 per the 1850 census. He was born in Burke County, North Carolina (per 1850 census).

According to the aforementioned family history (from 1887), Tilenius Moore is a son of John Moore (1762) and Jane Patton. I have not seen any direct evidence supporting this, but it seems to me that the family history is probably accurate based on certain bits of circumstantial evidence, and the provable accuracy of other parts of that particular family record.

For the 1810 census, Tilenius would have been about 3 years old, so probably enumerated in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1800/10). John Moore was probably in Burke County in 1810 based on the fact that his daughter Mary was born in Feb 1810 in Burke County. However, a look at the 1810 census shows no "John Moore" in Burke. Some of the slightly older children were born in Buncombe County, but there was only one John Moore in Buncombe in 1810, and he was too young, and living alone. Since we know that John died in Rutherford County, (from that 1887 family record) I looked there for them in 1810, and found seven Johns listed. The one who I believe is John Moore (1762) is on page 122, and he had two sons "under 10", which fits Tilenius (1807).

For the 1820 census, Tilenius would have been about 13 years old, so should be enumerated in the 10-15 age group (born ca 1804/10). There were five John Moores listed in Rutherford that year. John Moore "C. Creek" (which I believe is this John) had 2 boys age 10-15.

** For the 1830 census, Tilenius would have been about 23 years old. He is probably home with his widowed mother that year in Rutherford County. ** I don't have this entry typed up yet.

On 18 Jul 1831, Tilenius Moor obtained a marriage bond in Rutherford County to marry Nancy S. Cochran. John Moore was bondsman which was probably his brother John Moore (1799). Nancy S. Cochran was born ca 1808/09 (per 1850 census) in Rutherford County (per 1850 census). I don't know who her parents were. There were nine Cochran (including alternate spellings) in Rutherford County in 1830.

Around 1833, Tilenius Moore moved his family a few counties westward into Macon County, North Carolina. There were several Moores already there, but I know of no relationship to any of them. Several of his siblings (and his mother) all seemed to move there about the same time. I don't know which was first, or if they moved as a group.

Tilenius was listed as a voter for the 1835 Congressional Elections. He was listed as "Tolines Moore", and having voted in Macon County in Franklin Precinct. He voted right after Joab L. Moore (1800), no known relationship.

Tilenius was listed on the 1840 census in Macon County, next door to brother John Moore (1799) and next to Samuel Bryson (1819), who (perhaps not coincidentally) was married to Sarah Moore daughter of Abner S. Moore (1801), relationship unknown.

On 24 Jul 1840, Tilman Moore (probably Tilenius) and John F. Pendergrass witnessed a deed from John Hall to Mary D. Moore (his sister). (Macon Co, NC Deed Book C page 1187)

Tilenius and family were listed on the 1850 census in Macon County. They were not listed near any other Moore families.

Nancy died sometime between 1850 and late 1851, for on 7 Oct 1851, Tilenius Moore obtained a marriage bond to marry Ann Pendergrass. No bondsman was listed, but they were married the same day by Joshua Ammons. Ann was an apparent widow, having been married to a Mr. Pendergrass since she had some young Pendergrass children. I don't know what her maiden name was, nor who Mr. Pendergrass might have been.

On 16 Sep 1857, Tilenius Moore sold his 198 acres to W. A. McCoy. Witnessed by D. McCoy. (Macon Co, NC Deed Book I page 84 from "Records of Macon County, N.C. 1849-1858 Deed Books F, G, H and I" Abstracted by Barbara Sears McRae, 1998. * Note: All deeds mentioned hereafter from books "F" through "I" are taken from this book.)

They were no longer in Macon County for the 1860 census. After a little searching, I found them in Yell County, Arkansas that year. They probably moved there after selling their land in 1857.

I have no data on them after this point.

Children

Tilenius Moore and wife Nancy had 8 children as proven by the 1850 and 1860 census. I have tracked a couple of them somewhat through the census and marriage records, but have not followed them too far down the line. See the Register Report below for more information on them.
