Alexander Hensley was born ca 1817/18 per his age on the 1850
census (32). He was born somewhere in Virginia (per 1850 census)
probably in that part of Virginia that later became West Virginia. I don't know who his parents were. In 1850 he was living with John L. Hensley (c1827) perhaps a younger brother. In 1850 they are next to Patrick Hensley (c1815), perhaps another brother. In 1820 Alexander would have been about two years old. Several Hensleys in Cabell had at least one apparent son in the under 10 age group (born ca 1810/20): Solomon Hensley (c1779), Robert Hensley (c1777), Samuel Hensley (c1790) and Nancy (widow of Stephen Hensley). Looking at the 1830 census, Alexander would have been about 12 years old. In Cabell there was Samuel Hensley (c1790), John Hensley (1790/1800), and Solomon Hensley (c1779) who each had at least one son aged under 5 (born ca 1825/30). Samuel (c1790) isn't for his only son in that age group is already identified. That leaves Solomon and John as prime suspects. In 1840 Alexander was listed as head of household, but he was living alone. Hensley (c1827) living with him. They are next door to Patrick Hensley (c1815).
Alexander Hensley married Mary Ann (---) before ca 1855 in Wayne Co., VA (now WV). She was born ca 1836/37 in Virginia (both per the 1860 census). I don't know her maiden name. They are on the 1860 census in Wayne Co., VA (WV). They aren't near any of the other Hensleys in that county at the time.
I wasn't able to find them on the 1870 census in Wayne or elsewhere. They are "back" in Wayne for the 1880 census, and still not near any other Hensleys.
I don't know when Alexander or Mary Ann died, though sometime after 1880, presumably in Wayne Co., WV. |
