I (Marty Grant) don't know how or if I'm related to Henry Johnson.
This family apparently lived in what later became Socastee Township of Horry County, SC.
The Horry County Johnson families were listed on most early census records with the spelling "Johnston", though in later census records, it was most often listed as "Johnson".
Henry Johnson was born ca 1814/15 (per 1850 census). I'm not sure where he was born. In 1850 his birth place was difficult to make out. It did not say "SoCar." like the rest of his family. It appears to begin with an "L", or possibly an "S". It might actually say "Sea", meaning he was born on a ship out at sea. However, I'm not sure if it says that or not.
I don't know who Henry's parents were. If he was born at sea, then perhaps he is not related to any of the other Horry Johnson families. He lived way down in Socastee Township (on or very near the coast), which is quite far from all the other Johnson families.
Assuming he was in Horry already in 1820. would have been about 5 years old then, so if listed on the 1820 census with his parents, he would have been enumerated in the "under 10" age group (born ca 1810/20). In 1820 Horry, there were five Johnston households with at least one male child this age. One of these could be his father: Allen, Jacob, James, Samuel or William Johnston. More research is needed to further narrow down this list. I know that William was not his father, but that leaves the other four as suspects.
In 1830, Henry would have been about 15 years old, so if listed, he would be in the age 15-19 category (born ca 1810/15) or possibly in the 10-14 category (born ca 1815/20). ** Unfortunately, I don't yet have the 1830 enumerations.
In 1840, Henry would have been about 25 years old, so if listed, he would be in the age 20-29 category (born ca 1810/20). Phillip Johnson (c1795) had an apparent son this age with him in 1840. Allen Johnson (c1790/1800) also had an apparent son that age in 1840. They were the only ones, so it is possible that either Phillip or Allen is his father. Of course at that age (25), he could have been residing with another family as a hired laborer or something.
Henry Johnson married Elizabeth --- between ca 1840 and 1842 in Horry Dist, SC. I don't know what her maiden name was. She was born ca 1819/20 in SC, presumably Horry District.
Henry Johnson was not listed on an 1845 Horry District tax list. He was of age then, but probably owned no land (only land owners or slave owners were listed, apparently). (Horry District Taxpayers 1845-1846 online at the Horry County Historical Society Web pages)
Henry Johnson and family were listed on the 1850 census in Horry Dist, SC. They were not near any other Johnson families.

Henry apparently died ca 1859/60, for his wife Elizabeth was listed as head of household on the 1860 census, and the youngest child was just 1 year old. Once again, they were not near any other Johnson families.

In 1870, Elizabeth and three of her daughters were together in Socastee Township. They were 8 houses away from Joseph Singleton (c1843) and his apparent mother Eliza (c1808) who had three young Johnson's living with them: Ella (c1856), Annes (c1857), John (c1860). I don't know who any of them are at present. But the proximity suggests they are connected to the Henry and Elizabeth Johnson family.

** I have not yet checked the 1880 or later census records for more data on this family.
Henry and Elizabeth had five children per the 1850 through 1870 census records. I have no additional data on any of them at present.
