John R. Watson was born ca 1814/15 per
his age on the 1850 census (35). His 1860
entry agrees perfectly showing his age as 45.
He was born in North Carolina, either in
Bladen or perhaps in Brunswick County next
door. I dont know who his parents were. Census analysis offers some possibilities. Noah Watson (c1795) had an apparent son his age. William Watson (1770/74) also had an apparent son that age. William Watson (1770/75) of Brunswick also had a son that age. I note that because in 1860 John was living just a couple of houses from one of William of Brunswicks sons. For the 1820 census John would have been about 5 years old. As alluded to above, Noah, William and William of Brunswick all had one or more sons aged under 10 on that census. In 1830 John would have been about 15 years old. William and Noah each had one son aged 10-14 (born ca 1815/20) which fits. William of Brunswick had two sons 15-19 (ca 1810/15) which also fits. On 16 Mar 1837 John Watson obtained a marriage bond in neighboring New Hanover Co., NC to marry Eliza Jane Clark. There was no bondsman listed. She was born ca 1817/18 (age 32 in 1850, age 41 in 1860). She is a daughter of Duncan Clark and Mary (---). She was probably born in Bladen where her parents were listed in 1820, 1830 and 1840. They were in New Hanover in 1850. Watson (c1839) daughter On 14 Jun 1845 Elizas father Duncan Clark made his Will in Bladen Co., NC. He lived in New Hanover at the time, but probably had land in Bladen. He named his wife Mary, and daughters Mary Ann Hines, Eliza Watson, Margaret Priest, Sarah Williams, Moley (no last name listed) and Catherin Ann. Sons: David, James, Duncan, John and Benjamin. Executor was Benjamin Liles and John Clark. Witnesses were James T. Miller and L. H. Marstella. The Will was proven in Court in Dec 1850. They werent near any of the other Watsons in Bladen. Mary Watson (c1775) was about 27 houses away.
